pale = awai (opposite of deep, light), aojiroi (pale, colorless, pallid)
iris = ayame
awai iro no ayame (light colored)
aojiroi ayame (literal trans is blue and white)
i think awai iro is better
coz ayame is purple. not blue right??

look at the leaves... monocots have parallel main veins in the leaves.
Reply:The iris has the long, slender parallel leaves typical of monocots. Grasses, grains, bamboo are other examples. Monocots have single seed leaves. Dicots have two seed leaves.

I have a lot of Iris rot this year. What is the cause?
I know of two causes. One simple old age and two those flies or whatever that lay eggs on the leaves which hatch into grubs and eat the rhizome alive and cause it to get mushy.
Amazingly I had beautiful flowers coming out of absolute mush. These would fall still gorgeous as the base of the plant died seemingly very quickly.
I have ripped up all the infected plants and destroyed them but I have found no evidence of maggots. Should I see worms this time of year?
I am really upset. These are my prized possessions. I have bought these iris from all over the country via Ebay.
I guess I should have used bone meal. I forgot this year. Would that help?
What do the flies look like? Are they tiny knat like?
Should I try to savage some of the plants. That is cut away the mush part and replant the healthy parts.
Or should I destroy them all to make sure no parasites make it to adulthood?

Reply:I suggest lifting the plants, cutting off the affected areas, dusting the healthy parts with an insecticide and replanting them in a different place.

Is the email originating from iris_murdoch@yahoogroups.com titled "need confirmation" spam?
The email referred to originates from the same address as the Iris Murdoch group address. In terms of written English it is almost unintelligible having around thirty or so spelling and grammatical errors. It looks like the messages which carry viruses when you click on the web address contained therein. How can someone other than Yahoo use the Yahoo Groups email address?

When you have a link in ANY email do this, hover your cursor over the link, DO NOT CLICK, then look at the bar on the bottom of your screen and check for a match, normally if the link if fake the information at the bottom of your page in the address bar will tell you exactly where you link is redirecting you to go. Another thing you can do is highlight the link then right click and view properties. After highlighting the link it shouldn't open the link. I do this sometimes but normally I just delete the entire email without doing anything. Hope this helps.

How do I get my iris`s to bloom?
I have several patches or iris` and only one little patch blooms.I have had some for years and they`ve never bloomed.Is there anything I can do to encourage them?

Curly Q is right. Also, please don't cut the leaves ever. Irises seem to do really well if you let them dry out a little (well-drained soil) and if you even allow some of the roots to be exposed.
Reply:Yep, they need to be separated. Not enough nutrients in the soil to support them all. Also, if you do cut them down, make sure it's towards the end of summer or fall. Even when they aren't blooming, they're storing up energy in the bulbs for next year.

Can i remove spot on iris?
i have a dark patch on my iris. is it possible to remove it?

A fairly significant percentage of the population have iris spots. The 'danger' is that the spot may not just be a bunch of pigment or a freckle but something worse. Iris melanomas are the not so nice ones and are cancers. They can be removed.
The ophthalmologist who does this would look at the little spot and photograph it. He might do an angiogram to see what type of vasculature it has. He might do ultrasound to see if he can identify by sound, the cell type.
Malignant tumors have their own characteristics.
The surgery to remove one depends on whether the spot is central..or near the pupil, or at the base. IF it's at the base, does it go back further behind the iris? Does it involve the part of the iris at the base called the ciliary body. The ciliary body has muscles in it which run circularly, and obliquely and when they contract, the lens changes focus.
If you've had this spot your whole life, and can see it in photos, and it hasn't changed, it's a spot. Just leave the thing alone. The surgery isn't bad for the little ones, but it would probably disfigure your iris. And you think it looks funny now?

Reply:NO. Go to an eye specialist. Do not try to remove it yourself. You could damage your iris, eye or cause blindness. See a specialist. It may be that you got something in your eye and did not notice such as a piece of rust or something else.
Please have a specialist look at this. Never try to remove something from your eye yourself.

Do you think the name Iris for a girl is pretty?
A girl in my class named her girl after a Greek goddess named Iris; but l would name her after the Goo Goo Dolls song. (I'm not pregnant, nor will I be for a looong time)
