Where do i harvest iris seed from?

i know you can split plants up by their tubers or bulbs but can you harvest seed from any breed iris or are seed only harvested from certain breeds of iris and how or where do the seed come from....if you harvest the seed will they still multiply

Where do i harvest iris seed from?
The only way I have ever seen iris sold or propagated is by the rhizome. A very few of the water iris (either Siberian or Louisiana) can be seeded, but I think it is to early yet. They make rather large seed pods, where I have never seen these on beardeds.
Reply:IRIS HAVE BULBS NOT SEEDS JUST DIG UP A IRIS AFTER IT IS DEAD THEM GUYS ARE VERY HARDY YOU CAN CUT THEM IN HALFS AND THEY WILL GROW ON
Reply:Iris plants are bulbs, so you plant them as bulbs, and as the plants mature they will create more bulbs around them, and becomes thicker in an area, as they spread out. They best way to get them if from a neighbor who has a lot, or to buy them. As far as you know you can't harvest the seeds. You can only digs up the bulbs.

I have a small iris on my eyes, does anyone know how to make them bigger?

when i was young i had a pretty big iris on both of my eyes, and this made me look alot cuter. now that i'm older, it feels like they've shrunk. i want to make them bigger, but i dont' know how. does anyone know how to make the iris of your eye's bigger? please help!

I have a small iris on my eyes, does anyone know how to make them bigger?
go in the dark. They will automatically get bigger. They control the amount of light for you to see. If it is light outside, they get smaller. When it is dark, they get bigger. I wouldn't mess with them.
Reply:nope - nothing can make them bigger. They are just the way they are.
Reply:try to get a mydriatic medication such as phenylephrine, but a word of caution, this could induce glaucoma.

Where about is the IRIS enrolement room at LHR Terminal One?

This is the place where you go to get your iris scanned so UK citizens can enter the country through the iris channel at certain airports. On the Home Office website it says the enrolement office is on the right hand side before reaching the shops (at terminal 1), i wonder if anyone could be more specific? Also do you know if it is open on a Saturday? Thanks.

It is open on Saturday.

Heat exposer to the iris?

If the eye is exposed to extremely hot heat can it effect the pigments in the iris causing the color in the iris to fade.

Heat exposer to the iris?
Inside every normal eye there is a lens which puts what we look at into clear focus. The picture of everything that we see must enter our eye through this lens on its way to the back of the eye. This situation is very similar to the working of a camera, where light must travel through the lens on its way to the film. As in a camera, the lens of the eye is normally crystal clear and is capable of producing sharp pictures. Under some circumstances, however, this lens becomes cloudy and light does not pass through it easily.

It is this clouding of the otherwise clear natural lens which is termed a cataract. A cataract is not a growth, a tumor, or a film. Nor is it on the outside of the eye, as some people believe. Rather, a cataract is a clouding, or haziness, of the lens inside the eye. If everyone lives long enough, everyone will get cataracts. The point in time when a cataract affects real world useful vision (not Snellen visual acuity) is variable from person to personAs the cataract advances, colors become washed out. All of these changes can occur before the snelling visual acuity test (wall chart letter test) is abnormal. In other words, your visual acuity can be a perfect 20/20 but your quality of vision is not good.

Your eyes are very susceptible to high-intensity short-wave infrared radiation. Long-term exposure to infrared radiation can permanently damage the eyes. Glass blowers and arc welders, for instance, who are exposed to large amounts of infrared irradiation over time, are susceptible to depigmentation of the iris and opacity of the aqueous humor, also known as "glass-blowers' cataract." Goggles with special infrared absorbing glass should be worn by people experiencing long-term exposure to infrared radiation.
Reply:The color of the iris depends on the amount and type of different pigments. Melanocytes produce dark pigments (melanin) which absorbs light. The entire back portion of the iris is almost black from this pigment. The front of the iris is an area of different pigments in different places that produce the color of the eye. In front of the iris is the aqueous in the anterior chamber. This fluid is made behind the iris in the ciliary body, moves forwards around the surface of the lens, out through the pupil into the anterior chamber. If one looks carefully at the aqueous one can see that the front part (behind the cornea) moves down, and the back part near the iris itself moves up, causing a sort of vertical circulation.

The amount of heat you are indicating would have to go through the cornea, which is fairly sensitive....and you'd close your eye before any significant 'heat' was absorbed because it would HURT.

Then the 'heat' energy would have to get through the aqueous which would cool it a bit more, ...then it would have to 'heat' the melanin or other pigment enough to cause it to become 'damaged'.

Now you have a damaged iris, and you can't go outside or in the light at all because it hurts too much to be in light, really hurts. People with Irita's (inflammation of the iris) have terrible photophobia.

Seems that it would take a lot of 'heat' to cause a significant change in iris pigments without causing other damage to other structures.

You were 'made' you. You are the 'only' you on the planet, and here for an instant. No one else like you.

NO ONE CARES about the color of someone Else's iris, someone Else's eye color. We 'like' that color on her, or him, yes it does look really nice...but if the person is a jerk, the eye color goes out the window in a flash.

Socrates was a short, heavy, bald man who everyone around, loved. It was what he said, how he thought, how he taught...that made people admire him, follow him, love him. I'm not sure what color his eyes were. You?

I have a small iris....why?

I'm asian and my entire family has these nice big iris and have a decent amount of white in their eye. But I'm the only one in the family with a tiny iris and a crapload of white in my eye. So I look retarded and dull. Why is this? Does this have anything to do with how I eat and my surroundings?

I have a small iris....why?
(a) You don't look 'retarded and dull', you look great. Remember, for a lot of people, different is sexy.

(b) It's interesting how these sorts of variations pop up in a family, but then every time 2 gametes fuse, it's a re-shuffle in the genetic deck. Why not find out if anyone else in your family has shown this kind of iris? Maybe you're starting a new family tradition!

(c) If you're concerned about your eyes for any reason, it would be a good idea to get them checked by an optometrist to make sure that there isn't something there that you should be alert to. There's almost certainly nothing wrong, but it would probably help you feel better to know.
Reply:Maybe an Eye Doctor, or Ophthalmologist would be a better doctor to see for this as he is a trained doctor of the eyes. An optomitrist can make glasses, but is not an actual doctor of the eye. ;-) Report It

Reply:I doubt it has anything to do with the foods you eat or your environment seeing as you live with your family, who on the opposite have bigger iris.. Have your eyes always looked like that from birth or is it something that changed during aging process?

Personally, I think you should just appreciate the uniqueness of your eyes. If someone says you look "retarded and dull" then ignore them.. these type of people aren't worth your time, or your thoughts. People, most especially teenagers (although being one myself), seek for perfection in their looks too much these days. xP

just forget about it.. and go enjoy life. ;p

The iris of my eye, or the black of my eye is shrinking?

ive notice the black of my eye or the iris is shrinking. my parents were the one who noticed more. I'm 21 and i spend a lot of time on the computer. I was wondering if it could be that or insomnia.

The iris of my eye, or the black of my eye is shrinking?
Red is absolutely correct.

Your iris is designed to work in exactly this way. This is to protect the retina (back of your eye), and other bits inside your eye. If your pupil didn't do this, your eye would be in serious trouble every time you went out into bright sunlight. You should still wear sunglasses though, your iris isn't 100% protection from sunlight.

The iris in your eye is just like the iris in an older camera. When you want more light to get into the camera on a dim day, you just open up the iris by selecting a smaller f-stop. Your eye will do this automatically, so when there is little light around, your pupils will be quite large.
Reply:The black part of your eye (the pupil) enlarges and shrinks to acccomidate the amount of light entering the eye. If it was really bright in the room, your pupils would have looked really small. If it was dim in the room, you pupils would have been larger. This is completely normal.

Wanted: Iris video clips!?

I need some video clips from the 2001 movie "Iris" (starring Kate Winslet). I need to be able to put the clips into a powerpoint presentation, but I can't find any clips online. I don't have the movie, I had to borrow it from the library to watch it, but I no longer have it in my possession. If anyone has the movie or knows of a place where I can download it or obtain clips, I would really appreciate it. I think I can figure out how to input a clip onto the powerpoint presentation, but the problem is obtaining a clip. I probably wont have a lot of success with this, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask! Thanks!

well i'm not really sure as to what kind of clip you want or if you were looking for a specific scene but i found this on youtube

Blue Iris wedding theme?

I am planning a wedding with a theme emblem of the blue iris. Any suggestions of how to decorate my village hall and co-ordinate this generally would be appreciated as I am finding it rather difficult to find blue and yellow theme ideas around. Most people want pink or red etc.. I want something different. Any suggestions??

Blue Iris wedding theme?
Blue and yellow go great together. You could have yellow fabric for the base of your center pieces and blue napkins or vice versa. You could have the girls in blue dresses and carrying yellow roses and blue irises with some babies breath. You could have yellow roses and blue irises on your candelabras. You could do chocolates in the shape of an iris as a favor or do lollipops in the shape of an iris. You could find an invitation with a blue iris on it and reception cards to match then take those emblems and use it on everything else like save the date magnets, labels for candy boxes, thank you notes, cookbook or guestbook. For the guestbook, you could get one with a plain white cover and iron on a transfer of the blue iris on your invitation. Your pew bows could be blue and yellow. There are so many things you can do with that color scheme and theme.

Congratulations and Good Luck!
Reply:I love the idea!!

These would be great centrepieces ...

Planting Iris?

I live in N. Ontario Canada and I just recieved a bunch od bearded iris from a friend. I have them all in...just before our first frost. I planted the rizomes just about an inch below the surface of the soil. Is that deep enough in such a cold climate or should I mulch them for the winter?

These were a gift and I don't want to loose them.

Thanks!

Planting Iris?
I would cover them with some mulch, like bark or hay, another inch or two.. then when things start to defrost you can rake that away. Iris are pretty hardy they should start blooming in May or June. You can even put some in a pot they should grow inside but you will have to let them rest until the next fall if you want to put them in the ground later on..
Reply:Iris should not be planted below the surface. They should have some of the thizome at the surface, or slightly above. The roots should be buried. You can leave them as they are, and see if they come up in the spring. Mine all sit just at the surface, and I am in zone 5.
Reply:Mulch them, they should have gone down below the frost line.

Daffodil, iris and tulip question?

I need to move some daffodil, iris and tulip plants the daffodils have bloomed but I dont have a place to put them after I move them for now.can I trim them above the bulb and put them into a storm shelter until next year or just put the whole plant in there I dont want to throw them away but I just dont have the time right now to replant them and they need to come out

Daffodil, iris and tulip question?
If you MUST move the daffodils NOW, I would carefully dig them up with as much dirt a round the roots as possible. You could put them in the storm shelter, but here is another idea. In an out-of-the -way part of your yard (that gets sun), dig a trench a little deeper than the bulbs+dirt. Put the bulbs+dirt in the trench, cover with mulch and water well. Let the daffodils continue to grow until the leaves die down (so the bulbs have lots of food for next years flowers). When the leaves are brown, you can cut them off. Carefully mark the trench (with some twigs or a plant stake) so that you can FIND the bulbs in the fall. When you are ready (in the fall) to put the daffodils in a new place, carefully dig them up, separate and re-plant!

You can do the same with the iris and tulips. I would wait until after the tulips have bloomed to move them. Iris are pretty tough. They would probably bloom even after being moved!
Reply:I would cut them off maybe 5 Cm's from the bulb. They are such pretty flowers it is a shame. They should be right to be replanted for the next flower.
Reply:You can dig them up and put them in a cool, dark place like a basement. The storm shelter would probably be perfect. Air needs to be able to circulate around them to prevent rotting, so put them in a net bag like the kind that onions come in.
Reply:no! don't cut them they need the leaves to turn brown or yellow. the bulbs have to store up nutrients.
Reply:yeah they will be fine
Reply:If you can, leave the daffodils in the ground, with the tops on, until the tops turn brown. Then cut them off. You can then dig the bulbs and maybe by then you can decide where to put them.
Reply:they should all b fine in the storm shelter but the tulips shoul b planted in the fall as they need freeze to bloom in the spring

if u can leave them in the pot and treat them as regular plants until it is time to plant theywill b ok

Would Iris be a good name for a Hispanic baby?

I want a Hispanic name for my baby- I know Iris is a Greek name but would it work for a Hispanic baby?

Would Iris be a good name for a Hispanic baby?
I think you should name your baby whatever makes you happy. I named my boys Juan and Jose and everyone swears that I gave them spanish names for the hell of it but their dad is from Panama and that is a part of his culture. Anyway, do what makes you happy and don't worry about what anyone else thinks of YOUR baby's name. Good Luck.
Reply:No, I wouldn't name a child after a part of the eye.

I do like the name Elisa. as it was previously suggested, but not Monica either.
Reply:Well if its a girl, Iris doesnt sound all that "hispanic"...

Unless you pronounce it ( e-reese) like Arco Iris in spanish...

I like Venessa, Selena, Liliana

Why iris image of two person can not be same?

iris recognition

Why iris image of two person can not be same?
The iris texture is determined randomly during embryonic development. Even identical twins have completely different iris textures.

It is not that two iris images cannot be the same, but because of the random way the texture forms is extraordinarily unlikely.
Reply:I think there is not a final evidence that this is true. Maybe you can find two or more people with the same image. It is the same with the finger print. Until now nobody was found with a finger print equal to the another person, but it is not impossible to find one, maybe, in the future.

New iris leaves coming in - how to remove old ones?

(Completely new to gardening, small bed of iris came with the house!). I cut back the old leaves last fall but the rest of the old leaves are still in the bed, completely brown and dry. Should I cut them or give them a tug to remove them? The new leaves started appearing last week. Also, any tips to make them last once they bloom? Last year it seemed pretty fleeting - maybe a few weeks max?

New iris leaves coming in - how to remove old ones?
Cut the dried brown leaves off with scissors carefully and leave the green ones. If you pull, you may accidentally pull up the plant.

To increase your blooming time fertilizer will help any plant. Just don't overdo it or it could burn the plant. You could also plant other Iris that bloom at a slightly different time to lengthen the overall blooming time of the bed.

Transplanting iris and daylillies?

I have recently transplanted some iris and daylillies but have a lot left. We are expecting our first frost tonight (Tenn.). It it okay to store them in the dark garage until spring or do I need to try to plant them immediatley.

Transplanting iris and daylillies?
The Daylilies you can store. I have and they do fine. They won't bloom the year you plant them, but the next year they bloom(and grow...and grow...and grow...).

I don't know about Iris. I transplanted mine in May.
Reply:I really do not think it matters. Outside I have dug a hole and buried the plants or I just threw them in large pots and covered with dirt. They grow until winter kill then next year I just replant wherever. They should be hardy. As far as storing them in the garage I would not leave them uncovered or unpotted – they do need dirt around them. They should be partially dormant but should survive. In all cases keep them from getting wet and rotting. You can plant them when ever, the frost will have no effect on the true life of the plant even if it kills the leaves.
Reply:I would go ahead and plant them. There are so many things to consider when storing tuber, bulb, or rhizomes such as temperature, light, and moisture. Usually before you can store them you need to remove all soil and let them air dry for quite a while. Then once you are sure the are completely dry then you store them in a box with fine wood shavings or shredded newspaper. Unless you have no choice then going ahead and planting them would be much less work and you are pretty much guaranteed that they will return in spring whereas anything can go wrong with storage.

Good Luck
Reply:Either way they should be OK, if they're kept cool and dry. I'm still in the process of transplanting lilies and iris and I live in Tennessee too. I've done it both ways here with equal success.

Do Iris's change color after transplanting?

Two years ago I transplanted many different colors of Iris's to a different area of my yard. They are mostly all white now. What would cause that to happen? Could it be a change of soil?

Do Iris's change color after transplanting?
Normally Irises do not change color. It could be that some of the white irises you planted simply 'took' better than the other colors. Irises multiply normally by rhizome division, not seed. When they multiply this way, the new iris is basically a 'clone' of the 'mother' iris and will be identical in color to the previous year's iris. Some iris plants are more prolific and it could be that the white ones are crowding out the other ones. A change in soil normally would not affect the color.
Reply:they could have cross bread the same thing happend to my roses
Reply:I've never known that to happen -- but I have known that sometimes you think you're planting (or purchasing) one color and it comes up another.

?
Reply:Chemicals and metals in the soil can change the color of flowers.

Japanese Iris question...?

I have two Japanese Iris clusters I planted for the first time this season. Bloomed nicely... After the blooms passed the plant produced what look like bulbs right underneath where the bloom was...they are still green as of right now. Are these bulbs or seed pods ? If so, whats the right way to remove them and prepare for replanting ?

Japanese Iris question...?
Mature pods will ripen brown and should crack at the top. Sometimes the pods are empty if the hybrid does not produce fertile seeds. The seeds should be brown and glossy.

To germinate they need to experience a cold spell. Place them with some moist potting mix in a zip lock bag. Place the bag in the refrigerator (not freezer) for at least 9 weeks, or until you're ready to grow the seedlings. Remove the bag to room temperature %26amp; keep an eye on it. In two weeks they will start to sprout. Pot them up as each seed sprouts.

Your plants are very likely hybrids so do not expect your seeds to produce a plant exactly like the parent.
Reply:After the first frosts, remove and destroy all old foliage by cutting back to 1-2 inches. Each year new roots grow above the previous year's roots. In 3-4 years dig and divide the plant. Replant in a new area, or amend the soil before replanting.

The divisions must not be allowed to dry out before planting. Plant the divisions 2-3 inches deep in a depression and fill the depression with mulch. The depression will catch and hold water. Keep the new plants wet for the balance of the season. Use 2-3 inches of mulch on the plants all year.

Divide this plant in the very early spring or fall. It is easy to do with a shovel. Dig up a clump and cut or pry it apart. No big deal here.

You’ll want to divide your iris every 3-5 years because it will become overcrowded. If you see a dead center surrounded by tall leaves, it really is time to divide.

They are also heavy feeders and like an acidic soil.

This nursery is gigantic and you can spend two hrs on a sat. just browsing around. They have most any thing a gardener needs. Iam sure you can find Iris bulbs there. It's located on the far north side of Houston. Good Luck!
Reply:ONLINE ON EBAY YOU CAN GET MOST ANY COLOR, CHEAP
Reply:Most big cities have a plant swap for local gardeners every year. Check your local paper. It should be coming up in that area soon.

They are great - you get plants you know will do well in your area for cheap. You dont have to bring plants, but be nice and bring old cottage cheese containers (something big enough for a baby plant - since they will be giving you one) and cash. most plants go for 1 - 3 bucks for common things and around 5 for more exotic stuff.

Good luck
Reply:I will have to tell you that most iris you need to plant in the fall so that is probably why you cant find them this time of the year- the green house's might have some prepotted iris'es already planted but it might be hard to find the plants right now.
Reply:Dang girl, if you want some iris I will send you some, no charge. My mom has them on the hill and they so populated they not bloom well. I not sure if they Bearded but they are iris. I not sure how they do mailing now, but, next year or two should do well. Just let me know. It be best if you have a P.O. Box, but that up to you. If, you buy on Ebay you still have to give them an address.

If you want plants that are easy to grow, try Siberian irises, which come in shades of blue, purple and white.

Bearded irises come in a huge range of colors and are also pretty easy to grow, provided you plant them is a sunny well drained spot. They are mostly available from specialist growers.

Yes, it's possible. It's not a substitute for contacts, it's for people who have damaged irises.

The artificial iris is a fold-able iris prosthesis custom-made for each patient, It would be made for people that have damaged the iris or artificial eyes it is an implant and are not a permanent contact as you say

Siberian Iris?

Does anyone know what time of year is the best time to divide a clump of Siberian Iris?

Siberian Iris?
Fall is always best
Reply:There are two theories on this. Some say that you should divide as soon as the blooming season has ended. Some say that fall is the only time to divide. If you live in a cooler climate, then dividing after the plants have bloomed would be fine. If you live in warmer climates, then blooming will end at about the time the weather is hot and dry, thus causing poor weather conditions for dividing.

I live in a warmer climate, zone 7b. I always divide and plant in the early fall.
Reply:Depending on what zone you're in, fall is the best time to divide and plant irises. I live in zone 6 where the weather starts to get cooler in September. Siberian irises are very hardy so you shouldn't have any problems.
Reply:i find november the best time to mess with bulbs in general, but i live in california. before the rains come, but after the growth fades, is the rule of thumb, when the plant is most dormant.

The iris of my eyes glow under a black light... Why? Please don't tell me my eyes are white or flourescent.

The iris of my eyes is not white or flourescent so I want to know why they glow.. I was the only one who's eyes were glowing in a room with about 50 people in it. I'm not a vampire either. No I wasn't wearing contacts or anything of the sort.

The iris of my eyes glow under a black light... Why? Please don't tell me my eyes are white or flourescent.
Have you ever seen photographs of people with red eyes?

Red eyes occur if the pupils (irises) of a person are dilated and light is shone into them. This is because the light is reflected off the retina. This happens typically in a dark room (Where the pupils would be dilated) and a camera flash goes off before they return to their normal size.

In fact most cameras nowadays have a red eye reduction feature. Generally, the flash goes off not once but twice or thrice. The first few flashes cause the pupils to return to contract and the photograph is taken with the last flash.

So, you have nothing to worry about vampires. Maybe your pupils dilate more than the pupils of other people. It may be that you have a better night vision than others.
Reply:i was curious if you ever found out what causes this? i recently discovered that my eyes do the same thing in black light, and it kind of freaked me out! Report It

Reply:You could have an unusual eye or lens shape, or you may be developing cataracts, or could have an astrocytoma, a tumour at the back of your eye although it is unusual to see it in both eyes. There are some diseases which make your eyes more reflective (Wilson Disease shows a copper deposition inthe iris).

Or you could just be a freak.

In any case, a quick trip to the optician for an eye examination would rule any of these out.
Reply:Since yours were the only one "glowing", I'd be somewhat worried. Is it both eyes, one more than the other, or just one? The light is bouncing off your retinas to cause the reflection; however, I don't know why ultraviolet light could cause it. I'd see an optometrist or ophthalmologist about it; there are some diseases which vary in severity from benign to extremely malignant (retinoblastoma, for one); don't put it off. It would be better to pay for a professional opinion, than it would be to take the chance that it might cost you your sight.

Yellow iris........do you have to plant them near water?

I was given yellow iris and wanted to use them as a boarder along my yard. When reading online I found out that they thrive in creeks and such.

Do you think they will grow better in full sun or shade?

Yellow iris........do you have to plant them near water?
Yes, they need to be near water.
Reply:It depends on the variety you have.

The majority of irises, especially the bearded varieties, prefer to be sited in locations receiving at least 6-8 hours of full sun. The soil in an iris garden should always drain easily. With exception to the Siberian, Japanese, and Flag varieties, most irises do not like a wet environment. These types of iris will actually flourish in wet, boggy settings. If you are growing one of the other types, however, raised beds or sloped areas, amended with compost, will offer the best drainage options.

The particular type of iris that you choose to grow is especially important as they differ in their growing needs. For instance, bearded irises prefer a more alkaline-based soil, whereas beardless varieties do best in acidic soil.

My iris perimeter isn't round... what's up?

I was just at the eye doctor last week getting different contacts (the ones I had were really uncomfortable on my left eye) I have a new trial pair on right now, they're fine, but my left eye was a little blurry and felt strange like something was in it, so I went to look at it in the mirror, and I noticed the iris isn't totally round.

Think of two or three days after a full moon, how it's round, but there's a little bit of a flat edge. That's what it looks like. I don't remember noticing that before. Like I said, I was just at the eye doctor, I asked him what's wrong with my left eye and he kind of just talked about the contact lens slipping.

I have an appointment to see the doctor this Friday, so I'm not solely relying on yahoo answers people... obviously I'll get a professional opinion, but does anyone have any ideas right now?

My iris perimeter isn't round... what's up?
what do mean by iris?do you mean pupil?

Don't be angry,I advise you to be seen by an ophthalmologist to examine you by slit lamp microscope to see if there's any inflammation inside especially of the iris(the pupil become smaller than the other one,and the eye gets red),to check blood pressure of your eyes.Astigmatism is not a cause of your iris not being round.

Iris (Goo Goo Dolls Cover) lyrics

And I'd give up forever to touch you

Cause I know that you feel me somehow

You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be

And I don't want to go home right now

Verse 2

And all I can taste is this moment

And all I can breathe is your life

Cause sooner or later it's over

I just don't want to miss you tonight

Chorus

And I don't want the world to see me

Cause I don't think that they'd understand

When everything's made to be broken

I just want you to know who I am

Verse 3

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming

Or the moment of truth in your lies

When everything seems like the movies

Yeah you bleed just to know your alive

Chorus

And I don't want the world to see me

Cause I don't think that they'd understand

When everything's made to be broken

I just want you to know who I am

Chorus

I don't want the world to see me

Cause I don't think that they'd understand

When everything's made to be broken

I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am

Damaged iris?

If the iris in the eye suffers a thermal burn from an explosion will the eye color fade?

Damaged iris?
Possibly.

But any explosion that caused a burn to the iris would pretty much destroy the cornea and anterior chamber so it would be difficult to see the iris anyway.

Iris depigmentation?

About a year ago heat from a grill blew back in my face. The heat was so hot it singed my eyebrows and eye lashes the heat also came in contact with my eyes. My eyes went red for a bit but there was not much pain then the pain went. My eyes seem fine now but over time i have noticed my eye color looks faded and dull has the heat some how caused depigmentation in the iris if so does anyone know what has happend and can the effects be reversed?

Iris depigmentation?
It is common with heat radiation injuries, from what I know. I am not sure if it is reversable, this ia great question for an ophthalmologist. I am only and optician.

Iris by the goo goo dolls?

what does the song iris by the goo goo dolls supposed to be about? is it meant to be a cute song, or sad, or what?

Iris by the goo goo dolls?
Iris is sort of a sad and happy song in a way.

It should be mentioned the reason for the title of Iris. Many people mistakenly believe the song was named Iris either because that was his love's name or because he sees her and the Iris is the beautiful colorful part of the eye.

However, the meaning behind the title Iris is more mythological in origin. Iris was the messenger of the Gods through the use of a rainbow (which is how the Iris in the eye got it's name). The rainbow united Heaven and Earth along which the God Iris would communicate with man from the Gods. The man in the song is so in love with this woman that he sees her as a Goddess, hence the line "You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be." When he says "Cause I know that you feel me somehow" he is referring to the God Iris bringing his message of love to Heaven on the rainbow so that she will know.

Iris Murdoch successor?

Have read all of IM's novels and philosophy etc. Have not been able since her death to find anyone to succeed her as a major unique talent, capable of such range and cleverness and perception and humour and occasional weirdness. I heard quite a while ago that Candia McWilliam (?) was the new Iris Murdoch but I read her novel A Case of Knives and was disappointed. Any suggestions? Or was IM a one-off?

Iris Murdoch successor?
I wouldn't presume to make recommendations myself, but I can think of a couple of places you could try:

http://www.irismurdoch.plus.com/imsoc.ht...

The webmaster might have suggestions

Since Jorn counts her among his favorites, you might want to see who else he recommends:

(I do like Peter Dickinson.)

There's also a Yahoo group devoted to Iris Murdoch; it doesn't seem to be too active but sometimes a new member can spur new discussions, and they may have some suggestions.

Good luck!

unfortunately for you though..he deals in fact not fiction..and i dont know how much of a stomach you have for the truth as opposed to mere whimsical philosophising.
Reply:I agree that Iris Murdoch was a wonderful writer. I have found no equal to her in modern writers although I am somewhat taken by Fay Weldon but of the old writers Anthony Trollope takes a lot of beating particularly the book called something like "As we are now" or "As we live now" - sorry memory lapse

Iris bulbs?

Three weeks ago i planted iris bulbs into pots with compost ,they've started to come up but something seems to be eating the shoots any ideas on what pests like irsi and how do i stop this.

Iris bulbs?
deer and rabbits love the shoots

moles love to eat the bulbs

try ammonia and water with a few drops of baby shampoo

put it in a spray bottle and give them a shot every couple of days
Reply:Probably caterpillars, could be beetles. Disyston sprinkled on the dirt and watered in -- very effective systemic insecticide, Iris really prefer to be in the ground. good luck.
Reply:Sprinkle Seven Dust on foliage. It is a white powder that kills this type thing. rain washes it away of course so sprinkle again after it is washed away.

Iris by Goo Goo Dolls?

I love the song Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls but what exactly is that song talking about??

Iris by Goo Goo Dolls?
The song was written for the soundtrack to the movie City of Angels, and is in reference to the love of Nicolas Cage's angelic character for Meg Ryan's mortal character.....he wants her to know who he is ....an angel, but at the same time, the world cannot see him, for obvious reasons....the lyrics really speak for themselves, and it's a fabulous song, in fact the entire soundtrack is worthy of purchase, and features great songs by Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette just to name a few. ;)
Reply:about some guy and how the world doesnt treat him right aand every body judges him thus 'i dont want the world to see me coz i dont think think that they'll understand'
Reply:No idea but i love TGGD!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:not too sure but you could probably find it if you googled it. it is such a good song.
Reply:Songfacts: You can leave comments about the song at the bottom of the page.

Lead singer Johnny Rzeznik wrote this. He had a terrible case of writer's block before coming up with this. He even went to a psychiatrist for help.

This is about a person with an invisible identity who no one understands. Then, he finds true love. He wants his true love to know that he exists and that she is the only person in the world who can understand and love him - hence the last line, "I just want you to know who I am." The title means this is how I see you and me and everyone. (thanks, Britney - Calabasas, CA)

This was featured in the Nicolas Cage movie City Of Angels.

This was nominated for Grammys in the categories Song Of The Year, Record Of The Near, and Best Pop Performance By Duo Or Group. It didn't win any of them.

One of the instruments used is a mandolin.

The Goo Goo Dolls performed this in Madison Square Garden as part of the "Concert For New York" to raise money for victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

In Greek mythology, Iris was the god messenger who left her messages in a rainbow. (thanks, Rebecca - Clayton, GA)

Iris leaves turning yellow?

i planted iris seedling and the leaves are turning yellow and the plants generally look sick. does anyone know what's wrong with it? too much water? not enough water? sun issues? i don't get it...

They do that.

It's that time of year.

If your iris were a brilliant (well, brilliant for iris, anyway) green,

I;d worry that you had some sort of extraterrestrial/supernatural clone. But yours sounds like it's doing just what should be expected.
Reply:did you plant them to deep , when you plant an iris you never cover the crown of the bulb
Reply:It's time for irises to die now, anyway. They bloom in the spring/early summer... I think it's part of the normal lifecycle.
Reply:Nothing is wrong with it. It's natural. It's time for Iris to go die off(It'll turn yellow and then brown and dry up.) and you'll see the new growth come up in early next spring. No worry!
Reply:sounds like it may be too much water and not the right amount of sun

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls?

can anyone tell me what Iris by the goo goo dolls means? or what you decipher it to be? thanks.

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls?
The song was written for the movie City of Angels by Johnny Rzeznik after a few months of writers block and giving up the band and writting and everything in only one hour! It was totally amazing. The song follows along with the movie perfectly, the man is an angel and even though he is immortal and lives in a perfect world, he falls in love with a mortal and the only downside is that he can't feel her, he doesn't have the sense of touch. He gives his immortality to be with the woman. He falls from Heaven and they live happily ever after, until one day later she gets run over by a truck and dies. But he beleives it was worth it to become mortal because one moment with her was all he needed. It's a beautiful song, it demonstrates true love even though the world doesn't always understand it. The Goo Goo Dolls are my favorite band ever and I'm glad that you are interested in their music, it all means so much!
Reply:this is such a good song and very meaningful Report It

Reply:Aww, pshh.....Every single time I hear it I think of Buffy and Angel from BtVS, because a lot of people used the song in fanvids............*sings along*
Reply:Rzeznik found the word and definition of "Iris" in a magazine and found it fitting to be the song's title because of similarities in its lyrical theme. Prior to this, some fans of the song have speculated that the title refers to the Greek messenger of the gods, Iris. This is thought supposedly because some angels are considered messengers and this song was written for the movie City of Angels (in which the main character is an angel).

Iris Googoo dolls meaning?

what is the meaning of the song Iris by Googoo dolls? thanks

Iris Googoo dolls meaning?
johny rzeznik named the song after his girlfriend iris because he couldnt think of a name.......he wants the girl in the sng to know who he really is while hes hiding his real himself and showing her someone her.......he thinks that it is very confusing for the rest of the world..so he will lnly show himself to his girlfriend, even though he knows they will break up...confusing? iknow.....im kinda like obsessed with GGD so any questions..you know who to ask.........hoped this helped
Reply:I think if was the name of a singer Johnnie's mom used to listen to.
Reply:Its about lost love. Or more about Love in general. Just like in the movie in which the song was used City of Angels. The person he's singing about in the song probably is unaware of how much she means to him or just how special she truly is. "your the closest to heaven that i'll ever be"...He probably thinks the world of her, and she's like an angel to him the most sweetest and beautiful thing in the world. And he has only a limited time on this earth to show her that.

Iris recognition?

i need all the help i can get in iris recognition theory and hardware plzzzzzzzz

Iris recognition?
The basic idea is pretty simple. Take a close-up picture of the eye, with the pupil contracted most of the way. Draw a circle around the pupil, half-way between the inner and out edge of the iris. As you move around that circle, measure the pattern of light and dark at several hundred evenly spaced points. For convenience, identify the darkest point as -1 and the lightest as +1, and scale all brightness levels in between. Store the measurements for each person of interest. It's best to use an infra-red camera, because that detects the patterns better in people with dark irises.

To use recognize a person by iris recognition, repeat the measurement on the person who requests authorizaton. Perform a circular correlation between the new set of measurements and the stored value. If the maximum value of the correlation is above your chosen threshold, then assume that you have correctly identified the person.

Hardware: an IR camera able to take closeups of the eye, and a PC for doing arithmetic.

Hard parts: deciding how many measurements you need for each iris, deciding what threshold to use for deciding whether the person in front if you is who he claims to be. Lots of stats involved here.

Iris's , re-planting?

i dugup my iris's this summer, they were getting crowded.

I want to re-plant them now in the fall. do you think the root will still come up in the spring, even though, they've been out of the ground and in my shed for the summer?

Iris's , re-planting?
I dug some up in the spring one year bcause they were crowded. Planted some of them, tossed some on top of a table outside, and never moved them. The ones I re-planted did just fine. The ones on the table, without benefit of any care, dirt or anything else whatsoever, also came up and bloomed the next spring. So I replanted most of them that summer (August is really the best time), and they continued to do just fine. The ones left on the table for the second year didn't make it.
Reply:Almost for sure. Irises are very hardy, and I have left mine out of the ground for extended periods and they were fine. If the rhizome (the part just below the surface of the soil, looks like ginger) isn't mushy, then they should be okay. Plant them and see what happens.
Reply:Depends on how much the roots have dried out. If all vitality went bye bye, no irises in the Spring. If the roots crack and break, they are too dry. Plant the roots that seem limber and see what happens in Spring. You can always start over. Next time you want to move Iris, cut the stems across after the iris has stopped blooming and is trying to form a seed head. Give them a haircut. Leave about 5 inches of stalk. Now leave them alone until Fall. In the Fall, dig up divide, and replant.
Reply:depends do the bulbs feel normal or do they feel hollow or soft if hollow and soft toss them if they feel normal plant them they may not bloom next year or could lay dormant it never hurts to try
Reply:you can split them and replant but if they are bearded irises ,don't plant them deep or they won't bloom. leave a bit of the rhizomes showing above the soil and just cover the roots. cut the tops back to about 6 inches so that the energy from the plant will be directed to the roots and not the tops that are going to die back anyway.
Reply:Irises need to be broken up every 2-3 years. Break them up %26amp; replant in the fall - I try %26amp; have all my fall planting done by Columbus Day.
Reply:I have a bag full of Iris that my sister in law gave me that's been sitting out on my porch for the past 2 months and they are still green. They are tough little buggers.
Reply:If they show any life at all, they'll probably make it, they're tough. RScott

My dog has a cyst on his iris... is that going to be harmful in the future?

We went to the vet a while ago asking about a suspicious black dot in my dog's eye. The vet said it was an iris cyst and it's common in brown-eyed dogs, and it's nothing to be worried about. But since that last visit, the cyst has gotten bigger and it seems like it floats around my dog's eye a little. Will this affect his vision in the future? Should we get it removed?

Here are two pictures of what iris cysts look like:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co... (this one is on an animal)

My dog has a cyst on his iris... is that going to be harmful in the future?
Since it seems to float outside of the eye center-the vision part wouldn't be too concerned yet unless the dog develops several and they'll affect his vision. Any surgery should be done only when necessary for it will more than likely involve anesthesia which although mostly safe always carries a risk-same as in humans. I'd just keep a eye on it and not worry unless you feel its beginning or rather when it will(future) affect the vision. The Vet is actually the best one to ask if it will affect the vision-call him/her up they do not mind answering a question on the phone.
Reply:a cyst is very different from cancer so don't worry about that. could effect his vision, and may cause the eye to drip and tear up a lot as well as dry out. Removal shouldn't cost more than $200 and that would be with a full round of checkup and teeth cleaning (my husband's mother recently had the same problem, got the dog the operation and his teeth cleaned as well as his yearly stuff for that price). Good luck!
Reply:Iris cysts usually cause no symptoms, but in large numbers they can cause glaucoma by obstructing the drainage angle of the eye.

How many Atelier Iris games are there?

I'm confused.. because I thought Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana, was the first Atelier Iris game, but it said something about being the 6th part of the series.. and I just got really confused. Can someone tell me the games that were before it.. or what it means when they say 6th part in the series?

It's the first of the series to be released in America. Previous games were Japan-only.
