johny rzeznik named the song after his girlfriend iris because he couldnt think of a name.......he wants the girl in the sng to know who he really is while hes hiding his real himself and showing her someone her.......he thinks that it is very confusing for the rest of the world..so he will lnly show himself to his girlfriend, even though he knows they will break up...confusing? iknow.....im kinda like obsessed with GGD so any questions..you know who to ask.........hoped this helped

Reply:Its about lost love. Or more about Love in general. Just like in the movie in which the song was used City of Angels. The person he's singing about in the song probably is unaware of how much she means to him or just how special she truly is. "your the closest to heaven that i'll ever be"...He probably thinks the world of her, and she's like an angel to him the most sweetest and beautiful thing in the world. And he has only a limited time on this earth to show her that.
