Iris's???????

I have alot of Iris's in my yard. But they have not bloomed for the past two years. They are not even getting buds. Do you have any suggestions. I don't think that it is a matter of sun vs. shade because I have beds of them in both.

Iris's???????
Iris need to be separated every few years, if not they will not bloom. Iris are rhizomes. Dig up the rhizomes and cut off the old and decayed or diseased sections. Cut back the leaves to 3-4 inches. Then plant them in the soil after scratching in a little bone meal leaving the top half uncovered. Iris don't like to be totally planted under the soil, they will rot and disease will invade the rhizomes. I would wait until after the iris bloom season is over in your area before digging them up, not to risk the iris which have set bud for bloom. Every year after iris' bloom leave the leaves on the plant to yellow before cutting off as this will feed the rhizomes for next year.

Reply:They are probably too crowded and need to be divided.

See source for more info.
Reply:They may be in the dirt too much. Iris likes to lay on top and also check for boars. If you find bite marks wash with bleach. Good luck!
