My 12 year old cat is still pretty frisky for her age; however, 3 months ago her right eye started to change in color. (She has a black coat, with yellow eyes) Recently, the right eye "iris" has developed brown spots/freckles and it seems to look worse each day passing. Is this definitely a cancerous melanoma or could it be something that an anti-biotic may cure? It appeared very sudden. I am very worried. What else can cause these symptoms?

This is a question you should call and ask your vet about. Last time I checked calling a vet for advice was still free. =) If your vet isnt phone friendly, call a different vet.
Reply:Take you cat to a vet TODAY!!! just as your Dr can't tell you what is wrong with your eyes over the phone- guess what neither can vets. Eyes are on of the most serious issues- once damage is done- it often times can't be undone. Your vet should apply a stain to the eye to check for scratches or ulcers, they should also use a device called a tonopen to check ocular pressure inside the eye- ask if they don't have one- to have them refer you to a vet "eye" Dr. I have seen cats loose their eyesight due to issues that may not have become so serious if addressed earlier- I have also seen a pet who's eye "exploded" when an ulcer in the eye ruptured and popped the eye like a raisin- that pet had to have the eyeball surgically removed.
PLEASE see your vet today- Do Not expect the vet the treat your pet over the phone- and if they do find a new vet- your pets vision is worth taking him in for an office visit.

Reply:You need to have the eye checked by a veterinary ophthalmologist. It could be melanoma or it could be age changes. Have it examined
