Kay Hooper's Bishop/Special Crimes Unit Novel series. Basically they revolve around an FBI unit that tracks killers but the members have...extraordinary powers. Think a cross between X-Files and Criminal Minds.
Janet Evonovich's Stephanie Plum series. Plum is a bounty hunter...tough as nails and I find her funny as all get out.
Kathy Reichs (basis for the tv series "Bones" and Patricia Cornwall (Kay Scarpetta series a better version of Reichs' series) and Linda Fairstein (Alexandra Cooper, these are legal thrillers)
Tess Gerritsen's Jane Rizzoli's series. Rizzoli is a Boston detective.
