It's from the movie 'city of angels' basically, and angel falls in love with a doctor when she loses a patient to him. They somehow fall in love, and he becomes human to be with her.
It fit's the movie perfect, you should watch it, you'll understand more.

Reply:i've never heard "here is gone" but "iris" is about being away from the one you love (twisted a bit to fit into the "city of angels" soundtrack). john reznik (sp?) wrote it while he was on tour away from his wife.
