last fall I planted my iris outback but I may have planted them to deep and I can't deep them up I don't know where they are...if that is the case will they still bloom this year or are they dead :( as you can see I'm new a this!!
Ok yeah it's me again :) i have been reading other post about iris I think I messed up!?
i am so glad that i wasn't the only one. well the iris did come up,( so glad).... it didn't bloom that year, but at least i was able to locate them. just maybe guess where you think you plant them and just keep an eye out. good luck. i do love the iris flower, don't you? oh yeah, just plant it then just below the surface. if you try to do lillies, plant them with the iris, just a little deeper though, do they compliment each other.
Reply:I think that you shouldn't panic just yet!! I live in Zone 9/10 and my iris are just now starting to bloom. So you are probably at least a month later than me, blooming-wise! Iris's are pretty hardy!! Next year, I would cover the plants with mulch in the fall. That will keep them from freezing and give them some "food".
Reply:You may have planted them too deep. They are not a bulb, but a corm, and should be planted on the ground. The only thing that should be below the surface are the roots. They may come up. I am in zone 5, too, and mine are up 6". Also, I NEVER mulch. It is a natural habitat for insects and fungi.
Reply:Your Iris should have leaves that sort of look like the blade of a sword. Its still kind of early so don't panic just yet.
