Can I mow off the tops of my iris after they have bloomed?

Will it harm the iris to mow them down one time just after they are done blooming if they are left to re grow for the summer?

You need to leave the leaves alone after flowering so they can make enough food to keep the rhizomes healthy for next year's flowering. When they start to look ratty, you can cut the down shorter, to about 8 inches or so. If you cut the leave in a wedge shape (not each leaf, but the plant as a whole) about 4 inches at the outside and 8 inches in the center they look better and you have left enough leaf for food production.
Reply:you should only dead head them leave the leaves
Reply:yes you can! they are a tuber and will come back next spring.
Reply:Let all green parts die before mowing, otherwise blooms will not be as profuse the next year, possible nonexistent
Reply:What do you mean Mow. Are you going to run em down with a lawn mower?
Reply:Just cut off the flowers and leave the foliage which will help feed the plant for next year. If you cut off all the foliage all the plants energy will go to forming new foliage instead of setting blooms.
