What kind of a plant is an IRIS?

They have tall spike-like leaves. They bloom in May and early June where I live in PA. Put them in the ground now. They are a bulb. Don't be surprised if they don't bloom the first year or so. They do like to be root-bound and have their "toes" above the soil line. So, I recommend covering them lightly when you plant them. They like sun.
