Help!My Iris aren't blooming! What exactly does an Iris need?

Some are in full sun, some are in partial sun. I have many clumps but only one stalk with lots of blooms. I don't get it. When I thinned them out once they still didn't bloom. They have plenty of organic matter around them. I don't fertilize. There are plenty of leaves!

Irises need lots of sun, if at all possible. Also I agree with this other answer about planting them too deeply. Just lay them on top of the ground with a little dirt around them, just to keep them with the roots facing down where they won't roll over. I would dig them up and reset them. When resetting (wait til after they bloom), dig them up cut the fans (leaves) in a tee-pee shape leaving about 4-5 inches on them, then plant them. Hope this helps!
Reply:Listen to what the others say but also if you thinned them to much it could throw them in to a form of shock for a year or two. But be patient they will bloom.
Reply:you may have them planted too deep. they like to have the top bits of the risomes peeking thru the soil
