to transplant them now. a friend dug her iris' up and i took them to plant in my yard. do i need to cut the greens back to plant them. any comments would be helpful.
Can i cut the green of a iris back now 5-21-08?
If they haven't bloomed (depends on where you live) I would not cut them. Let them die down so the nutrients are stored for next years' bloom. Gotta love free plants!
Reply:No, you do not need to cut the green back to plant them. The leaves may show signs of transplant shock after planting them, though. Keep in mind that you want to dig up the roots in early spring and seperate them by cutting them so that the irises bloom every year.
Reply:Depending on their size, I would prune back some of the foliage just for ease of transplanting. If they are smaller I wouldn't worry about it.
