In the Goo Goo Dolls' song, "Iris", why does it have that title?

What is the significance of "Iris"? That word isn't mentioned at all in the song so I was wondering what it's significance is.

In the Goo Goo Dolls' song, "Iris", why does it have that title?
I would assume it's because the iris is the colorful part of your eye. There's that part that goes "I don't want the world to see me, 'cause I don't think that they'd understand..." She sees him when no one else can, giving his world a bit of color if you will. Have you seen City of Angels? That's the movie the song was written for, so that might make it make more sense. It fits with the movie perfectly, it's a gorgeous song.
