What does the the song "Iris" By The Goo Goo Dolls mean to you? And what does it have to do with the name?

Iris is apart of the eye soIi was maybe wondering if the feeling of the song was more than skin deep because you could only see the emotion of the song in his eyes?? What do you think?

AND...what does the song mean to you? Where did you get that idea from?

What does the the song "Iris" By The Goo Goo Dolls mean to you? And what does it have to do with the name?
"Iris" is about a person with an invisible identity who no one understands. This person finds true love and wants that person to know that she is the only one who can love and understand him.
Reply:I am planning to make a video for one person because he couldn't show his feelings, emotion, expression to other person, he still hiding his true identity and it makes him to be a mysterious person. So I decided to make this song as a background in a slide show video. Report It

Reply:This song reminds me of some of the best moments in my life. Yes it is slightly sad, but in a good way. it applies to me and everybody else on the planet.

"I don't want the world to see me/Cuz I don't think that they'd understand." Pretty much sums it up. It's about not showing anybody your true self because you're too afraid. It's hiding yourself behind made-up images, copied from other people and then compiled into one for you, so you don't get hurt. It's about wishing there was just one person you could show your true self to, and finding that person (you think), then losing the nerve. "And you can't fight the tears..." verse is finally realizing you can never show anybody. Or letting a bit of the 'real you' slip. That's the 'moment of truth in the lies'. Nothing feels real because you're hiding, is the "movie" part.

I love this song (and hte video) because I really identify with it.
Reply:This is a song about a person who no one truly knows or understands, for whatever reason. This person falls in love and wants the other person to see the 'true' person that he/she is, because they are the only one who can ever really understand and love them back.

Iris was a greek messenger goddess who used to send her messages via rainbows
Reply:Actually, I never gave much thought to the title having to do with the eye. I've always thought Iris was probably the name of the girl he's singing about.

The meaning of the song seems pretty simple -- he's deeply in love, apparently with one of the few people who has ever made feel like he could feel safe enough to let down his guard and be himself. He just wants her to know who he is.
Reply:I thought Iris was about that Movie City of Angels, when he says "yea you bleed just to know you're alive"
